The 4th day of the trial introduced numerous testimonies and evidence for everyone to consider. Markavius hesitated and then made a sudden detour towards his former brother-in-law before being intercepted by court bailiffs and escorted out of the room. Phone records and witness statements revealed that Makiva had been planning to divorce her husband Yuri in the days leading up to her death.

8:01 However, just weeks before the murder, she had a change of heart upon discovering she was pregnant. But it wasn't just a turbulent marriage that led to Makiva's demise. She also had a life insurance policy worth half, $1,000,000. Prosecutors argued that this large sum of money was the driving force behind Yuri's motive to have his wife killed. Yuri believed both he and their unborn child were named as beneficiaries, but only found out after Makeva's death that he was not listed at all. Dimitri Dale, 1 of Yuri's acquaintances who helped plot Makeva's murder, was initially indicted for first degree murder, which carried a potential life sentence without parole. But through his cooperation and testimony against Yuri, Dmitri ultimately received a plea deal for manslaughter with a weapon and was sentenced to 45 days in jail and probation. Jovan Joseph was the trigger man in Makeva's murder, receiving anywhere from 1500 to $10,000 for carrying out the crime. He, too, testified against Yuri and was given credit for the nearly five years he had already spent detained. After Yuri's conviction, his defense attorney filed a motion for a new trial, citing contradictory and improper testimony from both Dimitri and Jovan. However, this motion was denied.
