Three young children were inside their Centreville, Virginia home when police say their father shot their mother, Lavinia Brown, before taking his own life.
Investigators say the children were the ones who reached out to a nearby relative for help. That relative called 911, and officers later found both Lavinia and her husband, Brandon Brown, dead inside the home.
Police are investigating the case as a domestic-related murder-suicide. No motive has been publicly released, and authorities have not said whether there was a documented history of domestic violence between the couple.
The children were not physically injured and are now staying with extended family.
Lavinia was only 31 years old.
